Blackjack - Learning the Basics
Blackjack is a traditional table game that is available in many online casinos. The basic goal of blackjack is to score a 21 with your cards - without going over - all while having the least amount of cards possible. Not only does the player need to beat the other players with their combination of cards, but their hand must also beat the dealer's. Blackjack isn't just a game of luck, either - there are skills required to play this game and win; however, luck is always helpful!
The Basics of Betting
Bets are placed before any cards are dealt and are required as a minimum buy-in. Bets are then placed after the deal of each card starting with the first card, which will be dealt face down to the players. Cards are dealt one at a time leaving room for betting after each card. The first card is dealt face down so that other player's don't know what your hand holds. The bet after the first deal is most effective at making the other players worry about what card you hold in your hand.

Here are some popular terms used in the game of blackjack:
(a) Bust - occurs when a player's card count is over the sum of 21; this hand loses the game for the player
(b) Hit- term used when you want to be dealt another card; players will say "Hit me" to let the dealer know that they want to be dealt another card - only after the initial 2 cards are dealt
(c) Stand - term used when a player is satisfied with their hand and doesn't want to be dealt any additional cards
(d) Split - occurs when both cards in a player's hand are of equal value; the player can call for a split and essentially play two different hands of blackjack using the two cards as the first cards in the new hands
(e) Double down - occurs when the player doubles the wager, takes one new card, and stands
(f) Push - occurs when a player and the dealer have equal hand values; neither one wins
(g) Hole card - the dealer's second card is dealt face up, leaving the first card called the hold card
And there are some twists to the game...
(a) Before the dealer can stop receiving cards, his card total must reach at least 17. Players can stop receiving cards at anytime, but with the knowledge of the dealer's requirement, it would be wise to aim for a score above 17 in hopes of winning before standing - unless, of course, you think the dealer may have busted.
(b) Card counting is a technique used in blackjack where the player keeps track of the cards played in order to guess what cards are still available for play and the likelihood that the other players have these online casino cards. Card counting doesn't guarantee winning but it brings down the house advantage.
(c) Insurance is a good technique to use when card counting is in play which doubles a player's bet by assuming the dealer has a natural 21. The payout is 2:1 for this bet ensuring the player receives their full bet amount back. This is usually best used when the dealer's face up card is an Ace.
